Failed to Start Engine. Couldn't start engine - Error Code 34

Symptom 

You see the following error when launching the Cubby desktop application:

Failed to Start Engine. Couldn't start engine - Error code 34

This happens when Cubby fails to retrieve the Host RSA private key from the certificate store.

Solution on Windows

  1. Exit Cubby. Right-click the Cubby icon on your system tray and select Exit Cubby
  2. Delete the following registry entry.
  3. Download and install the latest version of Cubby. 

Do not perform this operation if you aren't comfortable working in your computer's registry!

Warning! When you reinstall you will lose existing cubbiesYou won't lose data, but your cubbies will become normal folders again. They won't automatically become cubbies again after reinstall. This could mean extra work setting up cubbies.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LogMeIn Cubby\AuthCode

Solution on a Mac

  1. Exit Cubby. Click Cubby > Exit Cubby on the menu bar or dock. (Tip: Do not click Quit.)
  2. Delete AuthCode from the following file.
  3. Download and install the latest version of Cubby.
